SAN DIEGO, CA, November 06, 2011 /Health and Fitness PR News/ -- The Huntington's Disease Society of America (HDSA)-San Diego chapter will host their annual Celebration of Hope Gala on Wednesday, Nov. 9, at the Manchester Grand Hyatt in downtown San Diego. The gala, now in its 11th year, is one of the nonprofit's largest fundraising events and brings together hundreds of influential San Diegans to support HDSA's mission to end one of life's cruelest illnesses.
Huntington's disease (HD), a fatal genetic brain disorder that results in the loss of all mental and physical capabilities, affects thousands of Americans each year but many of their heroic stories go unheard. The HDSA-San Diego chapter's Celebration of Hope Gala honors those living with HD as well as those who are making a difference in the ongoing fight to end HD.
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell; ESPN's Chris Berman; NFL Hall of Famers Marshall Faulk, Deion Sanders and Michael Irvin; NFL Network personalities Rich Eisen and Steve Mariucci; and many more will attend the Celebration of Hope Gala to discuss the importance of supporting HDSA to fight the disease in San Diego and across the country. The football legends will also share their personal stories and favorite memories of playing in the NFL during a riveting on-stage roundtable.
"The NFL is honored to participate in the Huntington's Disease Society of America's Celebration of Hope Gala," said NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. "The more awareness and understanding we all can bring to the destructive nature of HD, the better chance we have to find a cure for this horrible disease."
In addition to the NFL legends roundtable discussion, the Celebration of Hope Gala features one of Southern California's biggest silent and live auctions. Items available for purchase include rare sports memorabilia, vacation packages, one-of-a-kind experiences and much more. HDSA-San Diego will also honor Peggy Johnson, Qualcomm executive vice president and president of global market development, for her many contributions to the fight against HD.
"The support from the San Diego community and these NFL legends is truly overwhelming," said HDSA-San Diego board member, Bill Johnston. "Thanks to our sponsors and supporters, we believe this year's event will be our most successful fundraiser yet and will bring us closer to finding a cure for Huntington's disease."
This year's event will take place in the Elizabeth Ballroom in the Manchester Grand Hyatt located at One Market Place in downtown San Diego. Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased on HDSA-San Diego's website at www.hdsasandiego.org. Tickets are $300 per person with proceeds benefiting HDSA to help fund research for a cure, education and awareness, and support for families living with HD.
The NFL, National University, Qualcomm, Viejas Band of Kumeyaay Indians, San Diego Chargers, San Diego Union-Tribune and other local businesses are partnering with HDSA-San Diego to support this year's Celebration of Hope Gala.
