WHEN:
SATURDAY, MARCH 6, 2010, 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM

The Spring Valley Elementary campus will be the site for a community health fair this Saturday. The campus has become a focal point for community activities, and this event will bring families together for health and safety information and resources in a fun atmosphere. The Mt. Helix Council of PTAs and its partners are hoping for a good turnout to take advantage of the free health screenings, information on healthy behaviors, and important safety demonstrations. There will be children's activities and youth performances to make for a festive event. Event partners include the Mt. Helix Council of PTAs, the La Mesa Spring Valley School District, and "Ready…Set…Live Well".

Participants in the health fair will be encouraged to "walk laps for your library" - combining great exercise with a great cause to support school libraries.

Supporters and participants include San Diego County Sheriff's Department, San Miguel Fire District, Network for a Healthy California, Family Health Centers, and many more.

"Ready Live Well" is the name of an important new initiative that is working to combat the epidemic of obesity by creating community environments that better accommodate, even encourage, healthy eating and regular physical activity. After a year of strategic planning with local leaders and stakeholders from all sectors of the two communities, exciting changes are on the horizon. The hope is that everyone in La Mesa and Spring Valley will think about what they can do to help make it easier for themselves and those around them to make healthy decisions - eating lots of fresh fruits and vegetables and incorporating physical activity into their daily routines. This event is an example of how we can create environments that support health!
